About 400 acres of forest cover have been lost to forest fire in Gyalpoizhing under Monggar. The fire which is said to have started yesterday afternoon continues to rage.
The Chief Forest Officer of Monggar told BBS that the fire is suspected to have been accidentally caused by a woman who had started a small fire in her agricultural field. However, they are yet to confirm if this is true.
Forest officials from the range offices in Monggar, the police, and the kurichu staff are battling the fire that has now spread towards Wamling.
