The Regional Custom Officials at Paro seized US$ 47,200 and around Rs. 1 million from Paro International Airport on Thursday. The amount was discovered from a Businessman travelling to Bangkok.
The cash, wrapped in black plastic bags and then put in a suitcase, were detected by the airports X-Ray scanners.
The Director of the Department of Revenue and Customs refused to give any details and said the matter is under investigation.
According to the Foreign Exchange Regulations 2013, a person who is bringing in or taking out of foreign currency worth US$ 10,000 or more shall declare the value in the prescribed form at the customs point of arrival or departure.
