Many across the country woke up this morning, to find snowflakes falling gently, covering pretty much everything under a thin blanket of snow.

To mark the first snowfall, the Home Ministry has declared Monday a holiday in those dzongkhags that experienced snowfall.

On the other hand, road blocks have been reported in several parts of the country. Dochula and Chelela passes are closed to traffic due to heavy snowfall. Traffic has also been brought to a standstill between Watsa and Tanalum on the Thimphu-Phuentsholing highway. RSTA officials said some four inches of snow has accumulated in the area.

Other high passes are expected to be closed as well if heavy snowfall continues. Traffic and RSTA officials are requesting travelers to check with them before making their journeys.
