An agreement for financially assisting the Local Governments was signed between Bhutan and her development partners, today. The agreement was signed by the Secretary of the GNH Commission, Karma Tshiteem, and representatives.
The agreement earmarks an indicative amount of Nu.1, 000 million for the local governments to be used over five years beginning November, this year. The developing partners include Denmark, the European Union, Switzerland, the United Nations Development Programme, and the United Nations Environment Programme.
Also, the technical assistance worth US$ two million will be provided to Bhutan through the “Optical Fiber Techniques in Telecommunications Engineering” project. The technical cooperation project was signed today by JICA Bhutan’s Chief Representative, Yumiko Asakuma and the Secretary of the GNH Commission Karma Tshiteem.
The project will enhance the technical capacity of Bhutan Telecom and will contribute to the government’s policy of reaching ICT services to rural areas.
