It has been barely a month since the internet-based Point of Sales or P.O.S- a digital payment facility for refueling cars was launched in the capital. However, not many people are using the facility and the reasons are varied.

Some are unware about the cashless card payment system while others still prefer paying cash to refill their cars.

The fuelers in Thimphu said they have come across only handful who resorted to digital payment option.

“So we keep informing motorists about the new payment system and its benefits,” said Karma Thinley, the Regional Manager of Bhutan Oil Distributors of Tashi Group of Companies.

Some drivers who recently learned about the new cashless payment system said they are going to avail themselves of the facility.

“I did not know about the card payment. It will be useful when we don’t have cash,” said a Taxi Driver, Tshewang Lhhendup.

However, at times, the P.O.S service gets affected due to sudden disconnections of Wi-Fi internet.

The Royal Monetary Authority in collaboration with banks and the Department of Trade have introduced the service to reduce paper cash receipts.
