The second Foothills festival in Sarpang ended on a high note earlier this week.

The participating rural communities of the district made about Nu 5.5 M in total by selling various agriculture products.

Numerous cooperatives from the 12 gewogs of Sarpang took part in the festival.

The products on sale ranged from vegetables and fruits to livestock and food items. There was no dearth of customers as devotees from the ongoing oral transmission of Nyingma Gyubum added to the regular ones.

Last year, the participants earned about Nu 3.5 M during the festival.

“The income is better this year compared to last year’s festival. People from across the country are here to attend the oral transmission. So they frequented our stalls,” said Yangdon, one of the participants of the festival. The festival left the public equally satisfied. It provided them with access to fresh farm produce.

“The price of the farm produce is cheaper compared to those available at the vegetable market. Add to this, the quality is better here,” said one of the customers, Dendup.

Various sporting events such as marathon, cross-country cycling race and strong man competition were also organised as part of the annual festival.
