Farm road no use during monsoon

Although Seng-Gey Gewog is connected with a farm road, it remains almost inaccessible during the monsoon. To visit the Gewog Centre, one has to cross four streams, which swells during the monsoon.

The Gewog Centre is just 30 minutes drive from Sarpang town. However, at this time of the year, it takes more than three hours, but, that is on foot. The streams fed by the monsoon swells making it impossible for small vehicles to cross.

People said it is risky during the monsoon. They expressed the need for motor able bridges. “Without a bridge it is a big problem especially when people fall sick. If the stream swells people and vehicles cannot cross over. If government can provide a motor-able bridge, we will be grateful,” said Choki, a local resident.

“Sisty river has a suspension bridge. If a person falls sick we will have to carry that person and cross the bridge as the vehicles cannot cross the river. We cannot go to the Gewog BHU when it rains heavily as we cannot cross the stream,” said Tshewang Jigme.

The Gewog Administration Officer said Sisty river is the main problem. There is a suspension bridge running over it, which enables the people to cross over. He added a proposal to construct a motor-able bridge over Sisty river in the 11th Five Year Plan has been put up. If the proposal comes through, it will benefit all the five Chiwogs under the Gewog.

There are 240 households in the Gewog.
