Erratic water supply for Phuentsholing core town

Residents of core Phuentsholing town areas have been recently experiencing erratic water supply. They get water for about 30 minutes, which they say, is barely enough to fill their water tanks. Even that 30 minute water supply has stopped from yesterday, according to our reporter, Sonam Wangdi. Previously, they were supplied water three times a day for two hours each.

The reason for this was an excavator, while clearing debris, cut-off accidently. According to the Head of Environment Division, Phuentsholing Thromde, the power supply cable could not be replaced immediately as the cables were not readily available in the market. He said they had to negotiate with the Bhutan Power Corporation for another cable, which took some time.

Unlike the previous cable which ran six water pumps at a time, this cable could only supply power enough to run two at a time. This also reduced the amount and time of water supply to the affected areas. For bigger and more unit buildings and residence colonies, City officials provided water through the water tank trucks.

The Phuentsholing Thromde Office said that the repair works will be complete and normal water supply can be expected from today.
