PM-ElectricCarBhutan running on electric car is only an idea the government is considering and working on it, said the Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, during the recent Meet the Press programme.

“If we can replace all our taxis because taxis consume most amount of petrol as they have to be driven throughout the day.  So if there is a possibility of replacing taxis with electric vehicle, the government would like to support that.”

Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay said there is a misunderstanding on the electric vehicle going by what the media has been reporting. Lyonchhen said, so far, no project has been approved by the government on this

“The whole thing about electric vehicle is we are not compelling or forcing anyone to drive electric vehicle. We think it’s a good idea and government would like to encourage it.” But he said, it is still an idea.
