An electric car assembled in Bhutan, will soon hit the roads. Along with the cars electric motorcycles will also be launched. At first glance, the electric car looks no different from a Hyundai i10.But when you take a closer look, you will find it has no fuel tank but a battery. The car is run on battery.
The components of the car are imported from Germany, Japan and China and assembled in Bhutan. The software is locally developed.
The car also does not have an exhaust pipe. In place of the engine it has a small laptop with software that runs the vehicle. The dash board looks classic with modern features.
What’s more, the car does not produce any sound. The price will range between Nu. 500,000-600,000 depending on the options.The owner of Thunder Motors, who is the dealer of the car,Tashi Wangchuk, said using electric cars will reduce fuel import by about 50 percent. 
He already got orders from Thimphu Thromde and the National Environment Commission.
A fully charged battery car can travel 160 kilometres. To completely charge the batteries it takes about five to six hours and half of that for the motorcycle.
