Elections and bye-elections to elect Tshogpas for 12 vacant Gewog Tshogde Tshogpa Demkhongs were held yesterday. The 12 vacant Gewog Tshogde Tshogpa Demkhongs were in Bumthang, Chhukha, Pema Gatshel, Punakha, Samtse, Trashi Yangtse and Haa.
The bye-election to elect Thromde Tshogpa of Samdrup Gatsel Thromde Demkhong in Samdrup Jongkhar was also held yesterday.
A news release from the Election Commission says all members elected to fill the casual vacancies will serve only for the remaining term of office. This, ECB says, is in keeping with the Election Act.
