A gup, a mangmi and three tshogpas have been elected yesterday. The Election Commission of Bhutan conducted bye-elections for the posts in Bumthang, Haa, Monggar, Trongsa and Wangdue Phodrang. The ECB announced the official results today.
In Haa, the election was held to choose a new Gup for Samar Gewog. 41 year-old Sangay Dorji is the new Samar Gup. He secured 308 votes out of 871 voters. Four candidates contested for the post after the former Gup resigned.
In Bumthang, the election was held for the vacant post of Tang Gewog’s Mangmi after the demise of the incumbent.
26-year-old Chimi Choden was elected as the Mangmi with 482 votes.
In Monggar, Dorji Nidup was elected as the Tshogpa of Banjar Chiwog under Tsamang Gewog. The post became vacant after the demise of the incumbent.
The 48-year-old secured 102 votes.
Likewise in Trongsa, 36-year-old Sanga Dema was elected as the new Tshogpa of Tshangkha Chiwog in Tangsibji Gewog. She got 37 votes. The post became vacant after the incumbent resigned from the post.
And 33-year-old Gyembo Dorji was elected as the Tshogpa of Baedrog Chiwog under Kazhi Gewog in Wangdue Phodrang. He was elected after receiving 89 votes. The post became vacant after the incumbent resigned from the post.
