To spur business growth, especially the small developing businesses and entrepreneurs from remote parts of the country, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) joined the Ministry of Economic Affairs in launching the electronic Business Portal today.

Known as e-portal in short, it is a one-stop-shop website, containing comprehensive information on licenses, sector-specific clearances and permits required to start and operate businesses.

The e-portal website www.g2b.gov.bt contains information on common business sectors like agriculture, construction, forestry, ICT and tourism among others. Bhutanese entrepreneurs and FDIs can apply for licenses online without having to visit the licensing agencies’ office.

The Acting CEO and Executive Vice President of the International Finance Corporation, Rashad Kaldany, described the launch of e-portal as an important step towards making business easier especially for small private businesses.

“IFC conducted a comprehensive study on the inventory of licenses in the country. e-portal will not only benefit private businesses but also result in time and cost saving for the government,” said Rashad Kaldany. He said coming forward, the adoption of the well-thought licensing policy will further help improve business environment and legal frame. “We believe that IFC support to Bhutan on licensing reform will help enhance transparency and create an enabling environment for local business to grow and thrive.”

The Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Dasho Sonam Tshering handed over the information brochures to the concerned stakeholders.  Bhutan has been an IFC member country since 2003.
