Druk-gi Nyagoe goes to Phuntsho Wangdi from Trongsa

Druk-Gi NyagoePhuntsho Wangdi, 34, from Nubi-Tangsibi in Trongsa was declared the strongest man in the country after he won the coveted title of Druk-gi Nyagoe. The finals were held today coinciding with the Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the King. Phuntsho Wangdi took home prize money of Nu. 3,00,000.

Five finalists from Trongsa, Bumthang, Trashigang, Trashi Yangtse and Wangdue Phodrang had contested for the finals. Kinlay Wangdi from Bumthang was the first runners up. He took home a cash prize of Nu. 200,000. The third position went to Cheki Dorji from Trashi Yangtse. He was awarded Nu. 100,000.

Apart from the top five, 15 Nyagoes took part in traditional games like wrestling, cockfight, bull fight and short put.

The Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, distributed cash prizes and certificates.

Thousands of spectators had come to witness the event.
