Dorji Lopen appoints three new Kudrungs

The Dorji Lopen appointed three new Kudrungs at Punakha Dzong today coinciding with the Traditional Day of Offering. The newly appointed Kudrungs are Tshogchhen Kudrung, Shar Kudrung and Paro Kudrung.

33-year-old Sangay Khandu from Kabesa in Punakha is the new Tshogchhen Kudrung. He began his monastic education at the age of 12. Prior to this appointment, he served as a Dung Lopen in the Central Monastic Body.

And the new Shar Kudrung is 36-year-old Kencho Dorji from Jala in Wangdue Phodrang. He was enrolled in monastic school from his early childhood. Prior to his present appointment, he served as Budrel Lhungzin in the Zhung Dratshang.

41-year-old Passang Rinchen from Darla in Chhukha was appointed as the new Paro Kudrung. He began his monkhood at the age of 12. He also did his retreat at Trashigang Drubdey. Prior to his present post, he served in Chham section in the Zhung Dratshang.

All three of them received teachings and empowerment from various religious masters.

According to the Dratshang official, Kudrungs are appointed annually on this auspicious day.
