Dorji Lopen appoints new Kudrungs for Central Monastic Body

The Dorji Lopon has appointed three new Kudrungs for the Central Monastic Body. The three new Kudrungs are the  Kudrung Tshogchhen for Thimphu, Kudrung Shar of Wangdue Phodrang and the Kudrung Paro. They were conferred dhar at the Punakha Dzong this morning coinciding with the Traditional Day of Offering.

51-year-old Dorji from Guma Gewog in Punakha has been appointed as the new Kudrung Tshogchhen. Prior to his present post, he served as the Kuenra Kunyer of summer residence at the Punakha Dzong.

He joined the Central Monastic Body at the age of eight. After completing his studies, he received oral transmission and teachings from Drupwang Kado and completed his Nyen-Drup from Lha Dzong Tashigang of Hongtsho in Thimphu. He also served as a Kudrung in 2015.

And 37-year-old Phurpa Namgay from Dawakha in Paro is the new Kudrung Paro. He served as a mask dance teacher in the Central Monastic Body prior to his present post.

He became a monk at the age of seven and completed his three-year retreat from Cheri Drubdey in Thimphu.

39-year-old Pema Wangdi from Bjena in Wangdue Phodrang is the new Kudrung Shar. Prior to his present post, he served as a Lopen Lhungzinpa in Zhung Budrel. He began his monkhood at the age of 11. He completed his three-year retreat from Pangkarpo Drubdey in Punakha.

The Central Monastic Body appoints the Kudrungs annually on the Traditional Day of Offering.
