People of Udzorong Gewog in Trashigang are looking forward to resolve the decade old water accessibility issues with the completion of the DeSuung Water Project. The Nu 11 M water project which began in June this year will complete early next year.

With no proper water supply, water taps and reservoirs remain idle. Besides water pipe and tank leakages, drying water source have affected the water supply. People have been storing drinking water in containers.

“Without water, it’s difficult to carry out everyday chores. We don’t have enough water to wash our clothes often and feed our cattle. It becomes so worse that sometimes we don’t even have water to cook our meals,” said Tenzin Dorji, a resident of Udzorong Gewog.

“Without water, we cannot grow anything. And we have to depend on shops to buy vegetables. And it becomes difficult when we run out of money to buy vegetables quite often,” said Wangchuk, another resident.

About 100 DeSuups are working on the ongoing water project construction. The new water source is located about 27 kilometers away from the gewog. Once complete, it will benefit more than four hundred households of four chiwogs in the gewog.
