Tsirang Gonor Thoenkoe Detshen- a dairy group has smelled sweet scent of success in recent times.

In a day, the group sells about 400 balls of cheese, 20 kg of butter, and 15 kg of curd (yogurt) and 50 litres of milk. The Chairman of the dairy group, Mon Bahadur Dahal told BBS News that since their milk processing unit is located alongside the Thimphu-Gelegphu highway, “commuters also visit the unit to buy the dairy products. Everyone in our locality comes here to buy cheese and butter.”

With 80 members in 2015 when the group was formed, today it has 160 members from three gewogs: Goserling, Kilkhorthang and Tsholingkhar.  The group collects 600 litres of milk daily. Then the ultra sonic milk analyzer regulates the quality of milk and records it. If water is added in the white fluid, then the regulator immediately warns about it.

Members said maintaining quality and hygiene of the dairy products is their main priority. “The milk processing unit is clean and it provides us best quality of cheese, butter and milk in the area. In terms of hygiene too, it is up to the mark,” said one of the customers named Kharki.

By end of every month, members are paid according to the quantity of milk they contribute to the unit. And each of them takes not less than Nu 5000 for the contributed milk in a month.
