“People should not panic.” That was the message of the Minister In-charge of the Prime Minister’s Office, Yeshey Zimba, during a Live telecast on BBS TV.  He said instead, people should cut down the imports of unnecessary goods from India in order to overcome the present Rupee situation.

Lyonpo assured that the situation will be resolved soon. This he said will be done by putting proper system in place and by focusing on the hydro-power income generation in the near future.

“Now given the kind of situation we should take this problem as a wake-up call. We need to streamline the system of payments and system of trade,” he said.

Lyonpo added that people think buying things from India is like shopping from a shop downstairs of their house. “Trading system between India and Bhutan is far more liberal than the trade between different states in India. Time has come for us as a sovereign nation to also put in place a proper system like in other countries.”
