People visiting the Gelegphu Central Regional Referral Hospital (CRRH) for CT scan service are concerned with the frequent break down of the machine. The machine has become out of service for the second time since it was acquired last year.

When the machine first broke down in August last year, it took more than two months to get it fixed.

This time the machine has been out of service since the 13th of last month. People are worried that it might take months before the service is resumed.

“ We don’t know the reason, but the machine is breaking down frequently,” Dechen Tshewang, a resident, said.

“In absence of service, we face problems, as we have to travel to out of Gelegphu for the service,” Ugyen Wangchuk, another resident, said.

The hospital says they suspect the breakdown of the machine to be caused by rodents. The hospital had already submitted a report to the health ministry for necessary follow-ups.

At present, there are two technologists, two technicians and a nurse to provide CT scan service in the hospital. However, they say they are in need of a radiologist. A radiologist examines the scan report and recommends the diagnosis or treatment needed.
