The education ministry has decided to stand by its policy to keep the admission age of pre-primary grade students at six years. The ministry informed of its decision to the cabinet secretary recently.
Representatives of parents, proprietors and principals of private schools appealed to the prime minister on June 13 to regularise the under-age students enrolled in private schools. They had requested the government to at least reconsider this year’s enrolment as a onetime exception and assured to abide by the governments rule from next year.
The appeal was made after the education ministry revoked the admission of 890 under-age class PP students in private schools.
The representatives had also requested the prime minister to bring down the age limit to 5 years if possible.
The prime minister had asked the ministry to extend and explore the possibility of reconsidering the decision. However, the ministry took the decision as per the existing education policy guidelines.
