Coronavirus cases continue to rise in the neighbouring Indian states. According to the Indian health and family welfare ministry, West Bengal reported nearly 3,000 COVID-19 positive cases and 56 deaths yesterday. The total confirmed cases now stand at more than 86,000.
According to the West Bengal’s COVID-19 health bulleting, Alipurduar district, which includes the neighbouring town of Jaigoan has more than 500 cases with four deaths as of yesterday. Similarly, Jalpaiguri has some 1,600 cases with 13 deaths.
And Assam detected around 2,400 new cases yesterday taking the state’s overall tally to nearly 53,000. And with the death of five more patients, the state’s death toll stands at 126 as of yesterday.
According to Siliguri Times, a Siliguri based broadcasting and Media Company, for the past five days, Siliguri reported 27 new cases and more than 32 deaths. The total confirmed cases stands at more than 300.
Kokrajhar under the Assam state, which is around 63 kilometres from Gelegphu has some 402 COVID-19 cases with two deaths so far.
With India recording its worst-ever spike of more than 62,000 cases in a single day yesterday, India’s tally of confirmed cases has crossed the two million mark. The death toll has soared to over 41,000 while around one million have recovered.
Meanwhile, there are nearly 19 million confirmed cases of coronavirus in 188 countries. More than 700,000 people have lost their lives while some 12 million people have recovered from the virus.
