The Tsirang District Court sentenced a 56-year-old man to 30 years in prison for child molestation. The convict is a teacher serving in one of the schools in Tsirang. He was accused and arrested by the Tsirang Police in November 2019 following allegations by a group of girls studying in the school. The court passed the judgment this afternoon convicting him of molesting 10 girls.

The convict was handed consecutive sentencing. This means he received three years prison term for each of the 10 students he molested.

As per the judgment, the teacher pinched the backsides and thighs, touched the girls’ private parts, and kissed them. When the case surfaced some two years ago, the convict said he pinched the girls to punish them for underperforming in studies. The victims are students of classes II and III. They reported the acts of the convict to a teacher following a Good touch Bad touch awareness programme in the school.

The district administration forwarded the case to the police.

The court also ordered the convict to pay each victim compensation of Nu 90,000 within this month.

According to a source, the man had confessed to the police about committing the crime during the investigation period. However, for now, he plans to appeal to a higher court.
