The Wangdue Phodrang District Court sentenced a 20-year-old man from Tsirang to nine years in prison for the rape of a minor. The court passed the judgment yesterday.
As per the judgment, the convict and the 15-year-old girl met through social media and had affairs for almost a year. He was arrested in April this year after the girl went missing and was later found living with him. The girl is a student in one of the schools in Wangdue Phodrang.
The mother of the girl refused compensation from the convict.
