The people of Lauri, Serthig and Langchenphu Gewogs in Samdrup Jongkhar may not have to wait long to see their Community Centres connected with internet.

The Dzongkhag ICT officials say works are underway to equip the Community Centres with internet. Officials are visiting the gewogs next week.

This is the news the people of the three gewogs have been waiting for. The people, as of now, continue to travel to Jomotshangkha town, almost 62 kilometers away, for census registration and to obtain security and forestry clearances.

“Internet connection has become crucial now because many of the public services are delivered online,” said Kesang Dorji, the Mangmi of Serthig Gewog.

“If these services can be availed at the centres, people need not travel all the way to Jomotshangkha, which is good because being on the road is risky particularly during monsoon,” added Mangmi Kesang Dorji.

Of the 11 gewogs, Lauri, Serthig and Langchenphu are the only gewogs in the dzongkhag still without an internet connection at their Community Centres. The Community Centres in all 11 gewogs were constructed in 2013.
