A week after the blaze engulfed the Wangduephodrang Dzong, the Citizens’ initiative to rebuild the Dzong, to its former glory, has begun in earnest.

The citizens’ initiative, among various others, includes Bhutan Broadcasting Services’ fund raising debut program through music concerts and creating awareness in various social forums.

Similarly, the business community of Wangduephodrang came together yesterday to discuss the contributions they wish to make to for the restoration of the Dzong.

Some of the businessmen said, they should be the first ones to make contribution and set an example to rest of the fellow countrymen, far and near, in a hope that the nation will come together in this hour of need.

The Thromdey Thuemi, Rinchen Norbu, said the business people should come together to contribute in their own little ways, as they are the ones residing in the Dzongkhag.

Tshagay, who is coordinating the fund raising, told BBS, that a huge amount will be needed to restore what have been lost to the fire. “We have decided to contribute about Nu.3.5 million from the business community,” said Tshagay.
