The Residents of Changjiji now have their own park, community library and resource centre. The centre and the park were inaugurated last night coinciding with the birth anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.

The Prime Minister inaugurated the Changjiji Read Centre and the Children’s Park. As Prime Minister entered the park, he lit a butter lamp to celebrate His Majesty’s Fourth King’s Birthday.

The Community Library and the Resource Center is READ (Rural Education and Development)’s fifth centre. It was established in collaboration with the National Housing Development Corporation (NHDCL). The library has about 5,000 books, magazines and reference materials both for children and adults.  The center has a reading room and audio visual room.  In the audio-visual room, it has TV and educational DVDs. The center also has an ICT section with computers, internet and printing facilities.

The park which is worth Nu.5 Million has various play stations for children. It also has a Mani dungkhor for senior citizens who visit the park.

The Managing Director of the NHDCL, Ugyen Chewang, said the park was build to promote social interaction and unity among the residents living in the colony. He said they have engaged the tshogpas of the colony in creating the park, so that they have a sense of ownership of the park.

As part of the opening ceremony, various cultural dances were performed by the children and residents of the colony.

Changjiji housing colony has about 676 tenants.
