With the completion of the 16-kilometres Refey-Koshila bypass road in Trongsa, travelers making journey from Trongsa to Zhemgang will save a travel time of one and half hours.
However, this seems unlikely to happen any time soon as there are numerous factors that might delay the completion works.
According to the contract term, the road structures were supposed to be complete by this June. However, the assistant engineer, Phuntsho said the construction is expected to take another three months to wind up.
Road officials also justified that the length of the road increased by over 200 metres and cutting through the rock area widened due to geographical barriers.
The officials also said of the 16-kms, 10 have been already complete and nearby villages are reaping its benefits.
For the remaining six kilometres, the first cutting has been complete and other works such as road formation cutting is about to take shape. Along the entire 16 kms stretch of road, two bridges have to be built and as of now, one has already started while another one is awaiting its design.
The road will be ply -able once the two bridges are complete which may take till end of 2018.
Once the bypass road opens to vehicular traffic, the travel distance between Zhemgang and Trongsa will be cut short by 17-kms and commuters will not have to take the route via Langthil town.
The construction of the bypass road began in 2012 with the fund of about Nu 600 M from the Government of India.
