Bumthang has its own football tournament

Football-BumthangThe first football tournament of the year in Bumthang began yesterday coinciding with the birth anniversary of Third Druk Gyalpo.

In the first match yesterday, team Doros defeated Wangdicholing lower secondary school with 7 goals to two.

Twelve teams are taking part in the Spring Open Football Tournament.

The tournament is organized by Bumthang Sports Association.

The finals will be played on 18 of this month.

Meanwhile, over in Samdrup Jongkhar, a veteran’s super league football tournament is underway.

Our reporter, Kinzang Yeshey, says players aged between 35 and 55 years have been entertaining the residents of the town for couple of days now with their skills and energy.

The tournament is initiated by a retired Doctor who wants to control non communicable diseases such as hypertension and diabetes among the age group.

In yesterday’s match, Samdrup Jongkhar Eleven beat Dewathang United with four to two.

A total of five teams are taking part in the tournament.  The final will be played on the 15th of this month.
