Buli Villlage under Nangkhor Gewog in Zhemgang has become green literally. Roofs of the houses have been painted green to promote environmentally friendly village.
The gewog administration launched “Green Buli” campaign in 2013. As part of the campaign, colouring rooftops in green and preserving the rich biodiversity were given prime focus.
“The positive impact of going green is that now we can notice birds which were never seen before, touch the green roofs,” said Singay Wangchuk, Mangmi of Nangkor Gewog.
The roof colouring was funded by climate change project, but henceforth villagers intending to repaint will have to bear the cost.
Gewog officials said valuing the rich cultural and heritage sites in Buli, modern developments have not been planned for the village. To keep its rich culture and heritage intact, the gewog encourages people to construct two-storey traditional structures.
The gewog expects Buli Village to become a tourism hotspot in near future. The village has about 120 households.
