The bribery and manipulation case involving some immigration officials and a foreign worker recruitment agencies is in the middle of evidence hearing. The hearing is taking place in Phuentshogling Dungkhag Court. Office of Attorney General (OAG) started prosecuting the case on May 11, this year.
Anti-Corruption Commission had forwarded the case to the OAG on January 16, 2015.
According to Attorney under Prosecution Department, Thinley Penjor, 84 individuals were found to have been involved in corruption practice.
Apart from immigration officials and recruitment agencies, some police personnel and taxi drivers are also allegedly involved.
Some of the officials from foreign worker recruitment agency were found to have bribed the immigration officials for extension of foreign workers’ duration of stay in the country.
The immigration officials supposedly manipulated the workers documents and extended the deadline upon receiving the bribe.
