The Bhutan Olympic Committee is planning to build eight more Astro-turf football grounds across the country in the next five years. The office also plans to construct an additional five Multi Sports Hall in five districts. This was presented at the 24th Executive Committee Meeting today. The president of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, His Royal Highness Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck chaired the meeting.
Bhutan Olympic Committee plans to develop the Astro-turf football grounds in Haa, Gelephu, Zhemgang, Gasa, Wangdue Phodrang, Samtse, Lhuentse, and Pema Gatshel. It will cost the committee close to Nu 375 M.
Similarly, the committee has plans to build Multi Sports Halls worth over Nu 380 M in Haa, Monggar, Thimphu, Gasa, and Wangdue Phodrang.
Like-wise BOC has a plan to construct other sports infrastructure including office buildings for the tennis federation, the National Sports science center, Sports Complex, and the National Olympic Archery training centre.
‘‘Through BOC if the government build this infrastructure, I think this is a good opportunity for our youth, and it will also benefit in the future. When we prepare a proposal like this I am glad and appreciate it,” said Tshewang Jurme, Vice President, Bhutan Tennis Federation.
Some of the members of the executive committee emphasized the need to prioritize the projects if the government cannot commit to allocate the budget for all the proposed infrastructure.
The meeting decided to establish a Sub Committee, to be led by Kinzang Dorji, Adviser to the BOC. This committee will be responsible for evaluating and prioritizing the various infrastructure development projects.
BOC plans to propose Nu 3bn in the next Five-Year Plan. Of it, the committee proposes Nu 2bn for infrastructure development.
