The Bhutan National Bank Limited (BNBL) is the first bank in the country to receive both International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2015 and 27001:2013 from the Intercert Private Limited in India.
Intercert Private Limited is an international certification institute providing auditing, certification and training of international repute on various management system and standard worldwide.
BNBL received the certification after undergoing intense evaluation for its adherence to implement trusted quality, customer satisfaction and improve an information security management system within the context of the organization.
“ISO 9001 is for the quality management system, as a bank, we focused on the best quality. So basically 9001 will take care of the quality management system. And ISO 27001 is for international information security management system, so this will take care about our data since we are the custodian of the public funds custodian of the public information, it’s our responsibility to protect, to secure our customer information, that is why we have gone for ISO 9001 and 27001,” Yonten Jamtsho, the Information Security Officer of Banks’s IT Dept., said.
He added the certification shows the organization’s commitment to align its activities and processes with the demand of its customers.
“Officially it was certified on 7th August 2019. This project was actually started in 2017 June. In terms of ISO 27001, we have almost a hundred and fourteen controls to comply so it took two years. And the main benefit of doing this is, it’s our responsibility to preserve and protect our customer information as well as their fund. With this certificate, we are adopting the culture of continuous improvement.”
However, the validity of both ISO certificates is only for three years after which the bank will have to renew it.
