The blacktopping works of the double lane road in Lhuentse town will take another month. The work is a part of the urban road and infrastructure development works. It was scheduled for completion last year. However, the pandemic delayed the work progress.

The works to widen and blacktop the 2.5-kilometre road between Nakeythang and BPC office started in 2019. According to the contractor, about 80 per cent of the works have been completed. It includes formation cutting, laying of the granular sub-base, and construction of gates, retention walls and drains.

For now, the blacktopping works, construction of footpath and installation of street light are incomplete.

And the residents want the contractor to speed up the work.

“When we talked with the contractor, he was hopeful of blacktopping the road soon. It will also be convenient for us if they speed up the work. Once complete, we will have a spacious parking space in the town,” said Samten Jangchub Singye, the Thromde Thuemi.

“If the blacktopping work is carried out soon, we won’t face dust problem. And the commuters can also ply smoothly. The contractor is working hard to complete the project,” said Tsagay, a resident.

According to the contractor, works got delayed due to the pandemic as they could not bring in Indian labourers as expected. However, the contractor assured to carry out the blacktopping work within two weeks from now.

It is expected to be complete by next month. The works are being executed at the cost of Nu 90 M.

Once complete, the residents and other people travelling to Lhuentse town and the Dzongkhag Administration will enjoy a smooth ride.
