The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) has streamlined its areas of cooperation from 14 sectors to seven. The organisation’s Secretary General, Tenzin Lekphell, who is currently in the country on an introductory visit said this has been done so that proper focus can be given to the priority areas.
The seven sectors are trade and investment, environment and climate change, disaster management and energy, agriculture and fishery, people-to-people contact, culture and tourism, science, technology and public health and connectivity.
Meanwhile, Bhutan is taking the lead in the Environment and Climate Change sector.
