Bhutan’s first private clinic opens

Bhutan’s first private medical clinic, Menjong Diagnostic Center, formally opened in the capital today. The center located at Changangkha in Thimphu is headed by the former health secretary, Dasho Dr. Gado Tshering, and former consultant surgeon and Urologist with the national referral hospital, Dr. Sonam Dukpa. The clinic offers specialised diagnostic services.

“We will be offering services such as ultrasound which scans whole abdomen to different kinds of diseases,” said Dr. Sonam Dukpa.

He also said the clinic is to offer options to people. The clinic will offer services to people who want to do annual medical check-ups, he added.

According to Dasho Dr. Gado Tshering, who is also the CEO of the center, they will provide specialised diagnostic services at a nominal rate.

“For Endoscopy we will be charging Nu.2000,” said Dasho, adding that for the same service in Bangkok, the charges comes up to 17,000 Bhat.

The clinic has 11 employees.  It will be open from 9 in the morning till 5 in the evening on week days.  It will be open till one in the afternoon on Saturdays.  They will also provide emergency services.
