Since October last year, Bhutan’s consumer inflation has been on a continuous drop reaching an all time low at 4.7 percent in June, last month. Prices of both domestic and imported goods and services did not increase much since October.
In an earlier interview, the Director General of National Statistics Bureau said inflation in Bhutan has dropped because prices of food in India has been decreasing too as a result of improved monsoon this year. Should the trend continue in India, Bhutan’s consumer inflation could continue to drop.
The value of Ngultrum dropped 17 percent compared to 2012 prices, which means, what Nu 100 can buy today required only Nu 83 in 2012.
