The second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol will end by this month. The Kyoto Protocol is the only global treaty that mandates the nations to reduce greenhouse gas emission.

In his statement, Dasho highlighted Bhutan’s vulnerability to the adverse impacts of climate change.

He said, Bhutan, tucked away in the mighty folds of the Himalayas is a victim of climate change.

“We remain highly vulnerable to its adverse impacts such as- catastrophic glacial lake outburst floods, drying water sources…and unpredictable rainfall patterns- which not only threaten the livelihood of our people and communities, but also our survival.”

The UN Climate Change Conference held in Doha, Qatar, ended today.
