Bhutan still has a high risk for Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) from Bhutanese travellers although the COVID-19 patient has been airlifted to the United States of America yesterday. This was said by the Prime Minister during a press brief today.
Lyonchhen added Bhutan will still remain in the Orange Zone although the patient with COVID-19 is no longer in the country.
The Prime Minister said even when the COVID-19 patient was in the country, he was being treated in isolation and therefore posed no risk. Only the health workers who were involved in his treatment process were in contact with the patient and they are now also being quarantined.
Now after the patient’s evacuation to his country, there is still the risk of getting COVID-19 in the country.
“The risk will not be lowered because there are chances of getting the disease through other people again like in the earlier case. Since tourist in the country has been banned, there is no possibility of bringing the disease by a tourist. However, there is still a high risk of getting COVID-19 from the students studying abroad and business people who go out despite our request not to go,” said Dr Lotay Tshering, the Prime Minister.
Lyonchhen added similar contact tracings and actions will be carried should another test positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, 238 people including the COVID-19 positive patient have been tested for the disease in the country.
