Bhutan’s dreams of reaching the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup ended after losing to Thailand by eight wickets this morning. Thailand won the toss and asked Bhutan to bat first. Bhutan’s openers shared a partnership of 36 runs but once the opening pair was broken, wickets fell at regular intervals and Bhutan were bowled out for just 83 runs. In reply, Thailand made easy work of their run chase, comfortably reaching the target in under 11 overs. In the five-nation qualifiers tournament, Bhutan won two out of four matches against Myanmar and China while losing out to host nation Malaysia, and Thailand. The team will return home on Thursday.
Despite the disappointment, the tournament has served as a valuable learning experience for young players in the squad. 16-year-old, Tenjin Rabgey, who scored a half-century in the match against China yesterday talked about his lessons from the tournament.
