The In-charge of the Bhutan Development Bank Limited’s (BDBL) branch in Rangtse, Haa, is accused of stealing over Nu 4.6 million from the branch office.

The alleged theft took place on June 5. Police arrested the 32-year-old In-charge on the same day after he confessed to the alleged crime.

Police say the Rangtse branch office In-charge called them to inform about a burglary at the bank. Upon investigation, police found the suspect reported a fake burglary in an attempt to cover up the fact that he stole money from his own office.

Police also said the In-charge must have plotted the plan after what happened at the Sangbaykha Branch a day earlier.

On the night of June 4, a health worker found the Sangbaykha branch open. The health worker had called the Sangbaykha branch In-charge, who was then out of station, to inform about it.

The Sangbaykha In-charge is then said to have told the Rangtse branch In-charge about it and asked the later to check the Rangtse branch.

Police are also trying to figure out who broke into the Sangbaykha branch. The safe was found broken but no money was stolen.

Police will forward the case to the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) after the investigation is over.
