It’s been 52 years since Bangladesh first began the fight for independence to become a separate country from Pakistan. Marking the day, the Embassy of Bangladesh in Thimphu celebrated the 52nd Independence and National Day of Bangladesh today.

The celebration began with the hoisting of the Bangladeshi National Flag by the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Bhutan. The Gyalpoi Zimpon and representatives from the Bhutanese government were also present.

In March 1971, the liberation war started, which lasted for nine months and ended with Bangladesh officially having its status as an independent nation. And Bhutan was the first country to recognise the newly independent Bangladesh in 1971.
