The Ministry of Information and Communications will take another year to establish Bhutan Media Council even though the charter has been drafted over a year ago.
Bhutan Media Council will work as an independent arbitrator to resolves issues between the news writers and news makers.
The ministry said the media council can be instituted only after the parliament deliberates and endorses the Bhutan Information, Communications, and Media Bill.
The bill will be tabled for the discussion in the winter sitting of the Parliament, next year.
Several new clauses such as data protection and cyber security have to be included in the bill , according to the ministry.
The ministry said Bhutan Media Council will be a credible and independent body which will promote freedom of Media in the country.
