Ministry of Education launched Indo-Bhutan e-Library Project at Motithang Higher Secondary School in Thimphu, today. The digital library will have study materials, newspapers and journals in the form of text, video, and audio images.
Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, during his visit to Bhutan in 2014, had announced the proposal to establish e-library in 20 dzongkhags.
As part of e-library project, Indian government will help education ministry set up basic information and technology infrastructure in 49 schools and 12 colleges.
The project will also include setting up a data centre to store the library content at Thimphu Techpark. They will also establish digital studio for creating digital content in the ministry.
The education ministry’s Deputy Chief Programme Officer, Yeshey Lhendup said they have already shared curriculum materials of pre-primary to class 12.
“Just to cite an example, if a good mathematics teacher wanted to introduce a concept, his concept can be recorded in the studio and made available through e-library portal.”
He added the ministry will also look at possibilities of uploading other library books in the future.
Government of India is funding and implementing the project.
