Less than two weeks after the bird flu outbreak in Tshimasham in Chhukha, about 20 chickens have died over the last five days at Changidaphu in Thimphu.
Tests are being carried out at the national center for animal health at Serbithang in Thimphu.
According to Dr. Tashi Dorji, from the department of livestock, “the birds have been dying since Sunday at this place where small backyard poultry farms are common. The veterinarians visited the households where the deaths and sick birds were reported. Samples were taken from these birds for rapid test.”
The tests could not confirm conclusively whether it is bird flu.
The poultry owners have been advised not to let their birds stray away from their homes. And livestock officials have disinfected the area.
