An attempt to reintegrate inmates into mainstream

reintegrate inmates into mainstreamThe Bhutan Narcotics Control Agency in collaboration with Royal Bhutan Police initiated the first ever drug treatment and rehabilitation programme for the inmates convicted for drug and alcohol related offences, in the capital. The programme was aimed to empower and reintegrate the inmates into the mainstream.

Various sessions were conducted covering different aspects of early recovery. Relapse prevention skills and meditation and exercise were part of the session. “We have a programme particularly in three phases. First phase is early recovery skills, during this period  they were taught on the ways of early recovery  and the second phase of the programme is relapse prevention skills and how to prevent from getting relapse in the near future and the various ways and methods,” said the Chief of Police, Kipchu Namgyal.

Some of the inmates said such programme help them recover both physically and mentally.

The programme was conducted by officials from the Bhutan Narcotics Control Agency.
