Claire Thomsen, 15, from the US has raised US$ 50,000 to help launch a READ centre in Chhuzaggang village under Sarpang Dzongkhag.
Close to 20,000 people from four gewogs under Sarpang will be benefitted by the library and the community centre. The library holds 3,000 books, a kid’s centre and a women’s centre, an IT section, and a meeting hall.
Claire first visited Bhutan in 2009 with her parents and felt the need to do something for Bhutanese children living in rural areas.
READ Bhutan, a non-profit organisation focuses on establishing community libraries across the country.
