The health ministry will administer the Moderna vaccine for children aged 12-17 years in high-risk areas. According to the ministry, the Drug Regulatory Authority authorised its emergency use in the country yesterday. The vaccination drive for the age group will start on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the health ministry said Moderna will no longer be offered to those above 18 years. This is to reserve the vaccine for children.
Bhutan received 500,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine through the COVAX facility. Almost 90 per cent of the stock was used during the second nationwide vaccination drive.
Dr Sonam Wangchuk, a Member of the NI-TAG, shares how the vaccine will be allocated.
