Departmental-Volleyball-TournamentPeople working in Thimphu are finally getting an opportunity to represent their respective offices in the departmental volleyball tournament. The tournament was last organised some five years ago. The participants say such type of event was left neglected for some time now in the capital.

Most of the players are civil servants and they say volleyball was ignored.

According to the Bhutan Volleyball Federation, due to lack of manpower and proper facilities in place they were unable to continue organising tournaments.

It was the private individuals who organised open tournaments.  Tshewang Nidup from Bhutan Volleyball Federation agrees that the concern raised by the general public is true.

The ongoing tournament is being organised by Woezer Events, in collaboration with the Bhutan Volleyball Federation. The tournament which began on July 27 has 13 teams. It is being organised at the newly opened courts in Changlimithang.

The finalists will be awarded cash prize of Nu. 30,000 and Nu. 20,000 respectively. The final will be played on August 17.
