A double-lane bridge will replace the much-deteriorated concrete bridge at Nyala under Tangsibji Gewog in Trongsa along the Trongsa-Wangdue highway by next year.

More than 50 per cent of the construction of the new bridge has been completed.

The current bridge is said to be more than 30 years and its condition has been deteriorating in the last few years. More than a hundred vehicles ply over the bridge in a day.

“The road condition along the existing bridge is also not good. Once we complete the new bridge, the road would be smooth, comfortable, free of risks and the route would be also shortened by some meters,” Sajan Rai, the Engineer of the construction company, said.

The construction of the new bridge’s abutments was completed a few weeks ago and currently, they are waiting for some materials.

“After the steel girder reaches here, we will place it and we will cast concrete with reinforcement bars over it,” added Sajan Rai.

The new bridge will be 7.5 metres wide and the structure will curve towards the motorway bridge providing space for an easy turn for vehicles.

The construction works, which began in March this year is expected to complete by June next year. With funds from the Indian Government, the Department of Roads is implementing the project.
